Get Back to Your Roots

Happy Winter Solstice! Winter’s officially here and will be with us until March 20, or the Spring Equinox. Now’s the time to “get back to your roots”, yes literally, but I also mean it figuratively. Let me explain… Winter is the season of restoring. During this season, you restore the physical body with warm cooked … Continue reading Get Back to Your Roots

Morning Rituals + Ginger Tea

Ginger Tea

Treating myself to a warm cup of tea in the morning fills me with those hygge “hoo-gah” feelings!

Like receiving a warm hug and cozying up under a soft blanket.

And since I get a lot of questions on social media about what I have in my French press, I thought I would share this recipe and it’s benefits with you!

This ritual I do for many reasons…

Firstly, making a pot of tea it’s a calming practice- meditative even! Starting your day with a calming ritual (even if it only takes 5 minutes) will help you set the tone and your mindset for the day ahead.

Also, having a warm mug of fresh ginger tea in the morning assures me that I start my day off alkalizing my body.

Alkaline is anti-inflammatory. It’s the opposite of inflammation or acid which drinks like caffeine, coffee, milk, soda, and sugar are to the body.

Another benefit of starting your day with something alkaline is that it supports your detoxification organs. Continue reading “Morning Rituals + Ginger Tea”

Healing Disease through Seasonal Eating

Farmbox

A phrase we hear often these days is, “you should be eating seasonally and locally!”

But do you really know what it means? Do you really know how seasonal foods directly impact your health?

Firstly, there is a basic principle we need to understand:

The body is a self-healing organism!

Yes!

Said another way…

All disease can be reversed and healed!

Again, yes! All disease, from arthritis to cancer, can be healed IF the body is given what it needs to heal!

Let’s take a look at dis’ease’ (haha get it?) from an energetic standpoint…

Health is the presence of balance while sickness is the presence of imbalance.

Balance for a human body comes from the earth. The earth is literally referred to as Mother Earth. She  nourishes us with her food and grounds us (literally) with stable energy.

Eating from the earth and in harmony with the flux of each season is how we stay connected and balanced.

This harmonious relationship was vital to our evolution as a species and becoming vibrant healthy human beings!

But looking at our modern world, and more specifically the United States, vibrant health is not exactly how you would describe us. Rather, we are sicker than we’ve ever been!

But how did this happen? Continue reading “Healing Disease through Seasonal Eating”

I Heart Summer

Gazpacho

Did you know summer is the season of the heart?

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) each organ system is stimulated and nourished during different times of the year.

When you think of summer foods, what comes to mind? Delicious veggies and juicy fruits? Yes! These foods are physically nourishing to the heart and are energetically cooling 🙂

In traditional medicine, we look at the energy of food as it relates to the energy of specific organs in the body.

When it comes to the heart, we do NOT want a hot heart. This is a very dangerous condition and is what we known as “heart disease”, “high cholesterol”, “high blood pressure”, “heart palpitation”, etc. With these conditions, the heart needs to be cooled.

Another thing to understand is the heart is not a solo operator. And as amazing as the heart is- it’s just a pump. It’s not responsible for the health of your blood or cholesterol level.

Yes, you heard me right! The heart is NOT responsible for the health of the blood!

Why Cleansing is Vital to YOUR Health

Dandelion juice

Spring is officially here which means it’s time to cleanse!

Although many of you are still covered in snow and below freezing temps, the energy in the earth has shifted!

You can see the energy shift from a dormant winter when the rising energy sprouts tulips out of the ground, trees start to bud, and maybe you even feel the need to clean out your closet!

Yes, all of that is aligned with energy of spring!

In our bodies, spring energy is rising too! It starts at the bottom of our feet in the kidney 1 acupressure point and it rises up through the liver. All toxins stuck in the liver will rise as heat causing everything from migraines, headaches, seasonal allergies, anger/irritability, rashes, and your typical spring cold/flu.
