Chocolate Cravings…

I was just craving chocolate!!!

So I broke down and made this amazing and yes, NUTRITIOUS chocolate shake! Because this tastes like a guilty pleasure, here is the breakdown of this nutrient dense indulgence!

Homemade Almond Milk– Firstly, making your own homemade almond milk is vital to avoiding added sugar and mysterious other ingredients that are derivatives of GMO corn to prolong the shelf life of store bought almond milk. Secondly, almond milk takes out that pesky dairy factor that is a HUGE inflammatory for the system. Almond milk itself is an amazing source of easily digestible protein, Vit. A and D, and alkalizing to the digestive system.

Cacao Powder– I always keep on hand and store in the freezer (similarly to storing coffee). Cacao has INSANE levels of antioxidants. Antioxidants are vital to fighting free radicals that come from toxins absorbed through our environment, medications, and radiation. It is also a huge source of magnesium. Magnesium helps activate the Vit. D from the almond milk, increases energy production, eases hormonal and PMS symptoms, aids in sound sleep, body temperature regulation… and this list can go on!

Coconut Oil– As you may know, this is a power house super food! It improves blood cholesterol levels by raising your LDL (remember, good/bad cholesterol should be measured by the RATIO of LDL:HDL, not just each number independent of one another). Coconut oil is also alkalizing and soothes the gut with it’s anti-inflammatory benefits. It is great for your skin, hair, joints, and yes everything!

Frozen Banana– Bananas are an amazing fruit for prolonged energy. The sugar is easily digestible and along with the Vit. C, Potassium, Manganese, Biotin, and Copper it packs in a lot of benefits.

Antioxidant rich chocolate shake!

Ingredients

  • 1 tbs almond butter
  • 1 tbs raw cacao powder
  • 1 tbs coconut oil
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1-2 cups water or nut milk

Directions

  1. Place all ingredients in a Vitamix and blend until smooth.
  2. Enjoy all of these antioxidant benefits!!!
